FOR : Demonstration case for PHOENICS 3.3.1

INTRODUCTION

VRGEOM shapemaker utility has been used here to create the objects for the geometry of two-pass tube heat exchanger. In the case presented the simulation of flow and conjugate heat transfer has been carried out to provide detailed information about velocity and temperature fields in the shell and tube sides.

THE STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The case is aimed at calculation of flow and thermal fields in a straight tubes attached upstream and downstream on a 180-degree bend in a cylindrical turning section underneath of rectangular channel. The cold stream flows in the shell side over the tubes and cold stream is considered as tube side flow. The tubes have conductive walls of finite thickness participating in heat transfer.

THE RESULTS

The plots show the distribution of velocity and temperature within the heat exchanger.

THE IMPLEMENTATION

All model settings have been made in VR-Editor of PHOENICS 3.3.1
